2nd grade got a special treat when
Ms. Bologna
, meteorologist,
came to visit.
She taught the students all kinds of things about the weather.

CAN FOOD DRIVE

Our family collected over
4300 food items!

The food was given to the Santa Cop/Santa Spot program here
in Grand Prairie.

Cans lined the halls....
....and the front hall!!!
Honor Council stayed after school to box the items!
Oops! Ran out of boxes! : )
Mrs. Franco's class won the pizza celebration!  They pitched in as a team and donated almost 400 items!
The staff also donated and after three trips to the grocery store they contributed almost 1000 items!  Kroger also graciously donated again this year.
Veteran's Day Celebration
Family and friends were invited to honor those who have served!

Sam Houston Elementary celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Honor Council displayed 48 crosses in our garden to remind students and visitors that smoking kills.  Each cross represents 500 people in Texas to die each year of health problems related to smoking, over 24,000 people! To learn more you can visit

Mr. Toyooka's class was definitely one of the favorites!
1st place/Mr. Toyooka's class received 5 minutes of extra recess, a food coupon to a nearby food place & a free ice cream!
2nd place/Ms. Regalado's class received 5 minutes of extra recess & a food coupon!
3rd place/Mrs. Brown's class received 5 minutes of extra recess!

Kevin McKinney
visits 5th grade

Mr. McKinney, BS, LCDC, spends most of his time in the high schools talking with students about the effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol. 

Mr. McKinney had volunteers
demonstrate what it's like to be drunk with his fatal vision glasses.
They had trouble following simple commands and walking a
straight line.

August 2007

Mrs. Nunez treats the team leaders to lunch with some GP Firefighters! Mrs. Nunez bid on the event at the annual Education Foundation Dinner.  She got to choose the fire station and the firefighters prepared lunch for the staff and gave everyone a tour!! Thanks Mrs. Nunez!

July 2007

Some GPISD staff members were sent to Capturing Kids' Hearts training in Round Top, Texas.  Mrs. Nunez and Ms. Tackett were among the group from Sam Houston Elementary.

 

Summer Academy
June 2007

The Rotary Club donated over 100 books to our friends!  Students who attended Summer Academy got to choose a book to take home.  They made thank you cards thanking the members for their donation.(A special thank you to our librarian, Mrs. Eckhout, for setting this up!!)
