GP Police and GP Fire Department

Career/Safety Presentation

Officer Petermen
She is the School Resource Officer at Adams Middle School.
She shared how to become a police officer and duties she is responsible for at Adams.
D. Grace and R. Adcock work for the GP Fire Department as Paramedics.
Students got to see up close up an ambulance looks like.
They learned what a paramedic does on the job.
Students got to see up close up an ambulance looks like.
K-9 Handler, J. Granberry, shares how much training it takes to be, not only a police officer, but work a specialty unit like K-9.
Sergeant R. Craft shows students what is worn during safety and training exercises with the dog.
The canine is responsible for searching for narcotics, criminal suspects and evidence.
Officer J. Serna enjoys showing students just how powerful and strong Hiko is!
Firefighters talked about criteria for joining the department.
Students got to see up close and personal what it like!
The GP Tactical team came to talk to 5th grade about what their job is like and the importance it brings to the city.
Some students helped the officers demonstrate certain situations that might occur.

ENVIRONMENTAL WEEK
AT SAM HOUSTON

Fort Worth Zoo visits us and brings with them their "Wild Wonders" program.

Eight animals were shown to
the students....
....and facts given about their habitats and adaptive features.
They brought a python, alligator, African toad, serval, spectacled owl, and a large speaking parrot. The students were able to see the animals up close as they paraded them through the audience.
Many students were taken from the audience to the stage to help hold some of the animals and tell the others how their skin felt. The students thoroughly enjoyed the program and learned many new things about these animals.

Ms. Tackett accompanied students to the high school to receive a tour of the school and a gift.
Sam Houston has 17 INCREDIBLE SET students that come over and mentor students here.

Anti-Bullying Week

November 20-24, 2006

 

Special student announcements and posters were displayed in the halls encouraging others to report bullying during the month of November. Students wrote 5 ways to stop bullying and displayed them outside the classroom doors.

Meet Mr. Morty and Mrs. Nuney!  They are our friendly turkeys.  Students were invited to share on a feather what they were thankful for this holiday season!

CAN FOOD DRIVE

Nov. 6-Nov. 16, 2006

Sam Houston Elementary collected over

5000 food items!
That's incredible!!!!!

All canned and boxed food will be donated to the Santa Cop/Santa Spot program here in Grand Prairie.

Honor Council stayed after school to box the items!
We thought we would never
get it all done!  : )
Mrs. Holcomb's class won the pizza celebration!  They pitched in as a team and donated almost 600 items!
The staff also donated and after four trips to the grocery store they contributed 868 items!  Kroger also graciously donated as well!

RED RIBBON WEEK

2006

We learned important lessons about the dangers of drugs!  There were many activities throughout the week!

All the students were invited to sign a pledge brick and hang iton our "Wall Against Drugs."A brickwas also sent home for parents to pledge as well!

Rosie Mendez, Safe and Drug Free Schools Coordinator, came to speak to our 5th graders. 

They had lots of fun ....

Hilltop Unit in Gatesville, Texas, brought two female offenders to come and speak to our 4th and 5th graders about the choices we make and the consequences
of those choices.

The program is called Life Decisions and it is designed
to allow qualified offenders to travel throughout Texas
to inform & educate young people on the negative consequences of alcohol, drugs, crime and gangs.
Sergeant Sanders told the students that it is up to them what choices they make and if they make the wrong one there will be consequences. She encouraged the students to be a leader
NOT a follower!

 

Scarlet Pepin, a Comedy Ventriloquist of Nana Puddin' Productions, visited our PK-3rd grade students. 

She chose Mr. King to come and assist her!
What a great
job he did!
She reminded the students to always say no if someone
offers them drugs.
Her message about being respectful, honest & doing the right thing was well received through smiles and laughter!
